1. Synthetic fibres are made from petroleum based chemicals (or) petrochemicals are subjected to various chemical processes to obtain synthetic fibres. Due to this reason , they are called synthetic fibres (or) artificial fibres and synthetic fibres are made of polymers

2. Nylon , polysters , Rayon , Acrylic are examples of synthetic fibres.

• Nylon is made of chemical units called polyamides (carbon , oxygen , nitrogen)

• Polyster is made by reacting dicarboxyliic acid with dihydric alcohol.

• The cellulose collcted from plants is treated with sodium hydroxide , carbondisulphide and into dilute sulphuric acid.

• Acrylic is made from the combination of limestone , coal , air , water and oil
