Answer:

as we know

Explanation:

Whenever current travels through a conductor, a magnetic field is generated.

Whenever current travels through a conductor, a magnetic field is generated, a fact famously stumbled upon by Hans Christian Ørsted around 1820. Depending on the shape of the conductor, the contour of the magnetic field will vary. If the conductor is a wire, however, the magnetic field always takes the form of concentric circles arranged at right angles to the wire. The magnetic field is strongest in the area closest to the wire, and its direction depends upon the direction of the current that produces the field, as illustrated in this applet.

Explanation:

We take a wire carrying DC power in it. Now, we place a cardboard with some fine iron flakes on it and make a hole in its center.

  • Then we pass the wire having direct current through the hole of the board, we observe that the iron flakes get arranged in a certain pattern by themselves. This is due to the presence of magnetic field around it and hence the flakes try to arrange themselves accordingly under the influence of that magnetic field.
  • Another experiment can be conducted using a magnetic compass and cardboard along with the current carrying wire. We need to make a hole in the center of the cardboard and pass the wire through it. Connect the wire to a DC source and keep the board horizontal. Now, place slowly the magnetic compass on it. We observe a deviation in the needle of the compass and as we move the compass around the wire in a circular manner the orientation of the needle changes gradually denoting the direction of magnetic field.

The direction of magnetic field is given by Maxwell's right hand thumb rule.
