  • A solid formed in a reaction is called a precipitate.

→ The chemical which leads to formation of precipitate is known as precipitant.

→ This whole reaction is termed as precipitation reaction.

For Example :

 \small \bf{}KCl ( {\rm{aq}}) + Ag NO_3( {\rm{aq}}) \longrightarrow AgCl ( {\rm{s}}) + KNO_3( {\rm{aq}})

  • In above reaction, AgCl is an insoluble salt which is precipitate.
