Answer:

The four main steps of nutrition in humans are:-

  • Ingestion
  • Digestion
  • Absorption and Assimilation
  • Egestion

During ingestion, the food particle is broken down into smaller particles by the teeth and mixed with saliva that is produced by salivary glands. The salivary glands includes salivary amylase which converts starch into sugar.

In the stomach, the gastric glands produces the gastric juice which contains the enzyme pepsin, HCl and mucus; these help in in digestion.

In the small intestine, the digestion continuous with the help of bile juice from liver and the pancreatic juice from pancreas.

Further in the small intestine, the absorption and assimilation process takes place with the help of villi which is said to be finger like projections.

In the large intestine, at last the water is absorbed in the waste material is removed through the anus.

The digestion starts from the mouth and ends in the small intestine.
