Pairs of adjacent angles are;

∠1 and ∠2

∠3 and ∠4

∠4 and ∠5

Pairs of non-adjacent angles are:

∠2 and ∠3

∠1 and ∠3

∠5 and ∠1

∠5 and ∠2

GIVEN

A figure.

TO FIND

Find pairs of adjacent and non-adjacent angles in the above figures.

(ii)List the adjacent angles in the

given figure.

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows;

(i) We know that adjacent angles are those angles that share a common vertex and a common arm.

In the given figure;

∠1 and ∠2 Have a common arm as well as common vertex

Therefore,

∠1 and ∠2 are adjacent angles.

Similarly,

∠3 and ∠4 share common arm and a vertex. ∠3 and ∠4 are adjacent angles.

Similarly,

∠4 and ∠5 are adjacent angles.

∠3 and ∠5 share a common vertex but do not have a common arm. ∠3 and ∠5 are non-adjacent angles.

Similarly,

∠2 and ∠3 are non-adjacent.

∠1 and ∠3 are non-adjacent

∠5 and ∠1 are non-adjacent

∠5 and ∠2 are non-adjacent.

Hence,

Pairs of adjacent angles are;

∠1 and ∠2

∠3 and ∠4

∠4 and ∠5

Pairs of non-adjacent angles are:

∠2 and ∠3

∠1 and ∠3

∠5 and ∠1

∠5 and ∠2
