let draw the perpendicular AD on the base BC in triangle ABC then side AB=a,BD=1/2a then by Pythagoras theorem AB^2-BD^2=AD^2

a^2 - 1/2a^2 = AD^2

a^2- 1/4(a^2)=AD^2

4a^2-a^2/4=AD^2

a^2(4-1)/4=AD^2

√a^2√(4-1)/√4=AD

AD= {a √(4-1)} /2

HOPE IT HELPS!!!!!!!
