Answer

First find the LCM of 16, 24 and 40

The LCM will be 240

( 8 × 2 × 3 × 5 = 240)

We know that the Remainder is 8 in each case

Now, we will add 8 to the LCM

ANSWER -  240 + 8 = 248

Therefore 248 is the smallest number which when divided by 16, 24 and 40 leaves the remainder, 8.

Lets say 248 is divided to 16 will give 8 as remainder,

248 / 16

R = 8

248 is divided to 24 will again give 8 as remainder,

248 / 24

R= 8

248 is divided to 40 will give 8 as remainder,

248 / 40

R= 8
