Answer

x = 3

y = -2

Given

9x - 2y = 31

6x + 5y = 8

To Find

To solve these equations by elimination method

Solution

9x - 2y = 31

Multiply this eq. with 5 on both sides ,

⇒ 5 ( 9x - 2y ) = 5(31)

45x - 10y = 155 ... (1)

6x + 5y = 8

Multiply this equation with 2 on both sides ,

⇒ 2 ( 6x + 5y ) = 2(8)

12x + 10y = 16 ... (2)

Now , Solve (1) + (2) ,

⇒ ( 45x - 10y ) + ( 12x + 10y ) = 155 + 16

⇒ 57x = 171

x = 3

Sub. x value in (2) ,

⇒ 12(3) + 10y = 16

⇒ 36 + 10y = 16

⇒ 10y = - 20

y = - 2

Answer:

x = 3 and y = -2

Step-by-step explanation:

9x - 2y = 31 and 6x + 5y = 8

→ 9x - 2y = 31 (×5)

→ 45x - 10y = 155

45x - 155 = 10y ............(1)

→ 6x + 5y = 8 (×2)

→ 12x + 10y = 16

16 - 12x = 10 y ..............(2)

On comparing both we get,

→ 45x - 155 = 16 - 12x

→ 45x + 12x = 16 + 155

→ 57x = 171

x = 3

Substitute value of x in (1)

→ 45(3) - 155 = 10y

→ 135 - 155 = 10y

→ -20 = 10y

-2 = y

Hence, the value of x is 3 and y is -2.
