You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The easiest way, especially if you don't particularly like fractions, is to multiply both sides of the equation by the Least Common Denominator, which in this case is 16. (See my Lesson Plan on Least Common Denominators).
x%2F16+-+5%2F8+=+x+%2B+6%2F8
16%2A%28x%2F16%29+-+16%2A%285%2F8%29+=+16%2Ax+%2B+16%2A%286%2F8%29+
The great thing about this, is that ALL the denominators go away after the first step!
+x+-+2%2A5+=+16x+%2B+2%2A6
x-10+=+16x+%2B+12
Now it's a regular equation to solve. Get all the x terms on one side and the non-x terms on the other side. Add -16x to each side:
x-16x+-10+=+16x+-+16x+%2B+12
-15x+-+10+=+12
Now add +10 to each side:
-15x+-+10+%2B+10+=+12+%2B+10
-15x+=+22
x=+-22%2F15
It's UGLY! Math, like life, doesn't always come out even!!! By the way, I checked this on a graphing calculator, and it does check!

Answer:
Step-by-step explanation:
(-5/8)-1=-5/8-1=(-5-8)/8=-13/8
Or if it is
(-5/8)-¹=1/(-5/8)=-8/5.
Hope you got it.
