Here we have to find the value of x^{2} +y^{2}

The values of x and y are given

x = -1

y = 2

Now we will put the value in the expression

x^{2} +y^{2} = (-1)^{2}  + 2^{2} \\                    = 1 + 4\\                   = 5

Note: square of negative numbers is always positive

So, the value of x^{2} +y^{2} will be 5
