Answer

1) Connie must have kept Jim's letter for a long time almost 70 to 75 years. This is because she told the narrator how she read it quite often every day so that she could feel that Jim was near her.

2) The desk must have been sold when Connie's house had burnt. The table had been damaged by fire as well as water.

3) Jim and Hans thought that games or sports are good ways of resolving conflicts because nobody dies in matches. No children are orphaned and no wives become widows. Due to these reasons, games are good ways for resolving conflicts. Wars only lead to death and devastation.

4) The soldiers of the two armies were similar to each other. We can say this because they were friendly with each other, they ate food together, they played a football match and also celebrated Christmas together. Both the armies agreed that there should be peace among countries.

5) Both British and Germany soldiers smile towards each and wish each other a merry Christmas. They shared all their food to everybody that celebrated with them as well as drinks.

6) When the narrator came to give the box he found in his desk to Connie, she mistook him as her husband who had returned home from war. This was her Christmas present. This was the best Christmas present in the world because in the letter Jim had written that he will come home on Christmas.

7) The title of the story is the most suitable for it because the Christmas present that the narrator brings to Mrs. Macpherson changes her mental condition.
