Question

For x=3/4 and y= -9/8, insert a rational number between.

1) (x + y)^(-1)and x^(-1) + y^(-1)

Solution

Given :-

  • X = 3/4 , y = -9/8

Find :-

  • Value of (x + y)^(-1)
  • Value of x^(-1) + y^(-1)

Explanation

Case(1).

Calculate Value of (x + y)^(-1)

Keep Value of x & y

==> [ 3/4 + (-9/8) ]^(-1)

==> [ 3/4 - 9/8]^(-1)

==> [(6 - 9)/8 ]^(-1)

==> [-3/8]^(-1)

==> (-8/3) [ Ans. ]

________________

Case(2).

Calculate value of x^(-1) + y^(-1)

Keep value of x & y

==> (3/4)^(-1) + (-9/8)^(-1)

==> 4/3 - 8/9

==> (4 × 3 - 8)/9

==> (12-8)/9

==> 4/9. [ Ans]
