I love poetry and can read good prose for hours on end, but I just get little or no enjoyment from most poetry (and I've tried reading a lot). I believe that a lot of people feel the same, so why do some people enjoy it

High Modernism in literature is characterized by a complete and unambiguous embrace of 'Great Divide'. It believes that there is a clear distinction between capital-A Art and mass culture and it places itself firmly on the side of Art and in opposition to popular or mass culture. High modernist poetry constitutes works between the end of World War I and beginning of the World War II. 'Wasteland' by T.S. Eliot reflects the work of High Modernism as Eliot seeks to push the boundaries of artistic and intellectual convention in his work.
Post Modernists rejected the distinction maintained by High Modernists which marked their for Art and in opposition to popular or mass culture. They resist straightforward interpretation and prefer subject matter that is routine and mundane. They also attach established traditions in their convention as well as works.
I do like reading poetry as it brings to the fore issues that are of great importance besides taking us into a world created by the poet.
