Hello Friend!

Here is your answer!

Question 1. Solid sodium chloride does not conduct electricity while sodium chloride  solution conducts. Give reasons.

Sodium chloride is an ionic compound. As you know ionic compounds have the hardest bond strength. So the ions remain attach them strongly to each other. Electricity can only pass when there are free charge, in the form of electrons or free ions. As solid, there are no free ions, so no conduction of electricity. In aqueous solution, due to polarity of water and ions, the bond breaks and the ions get free to move. And hence, solution of sodium chloride conducts electricity.

Question 2. It is not safe to carry out electrical repairs outdoors during a heavy  downpour. Give reasons.

Rainwater too contains some minerals as water evaporated as rain condenses on dust and minute mineral particles. Thus, as mineral ions can conduct electricity in an aqueous state. it's very dangerous to work on electrical repairs as the workers may get an electrical shock.

Question 3. To carry out electrolysis of water, a few drops of sulphuric acid

(carefully) added to the water. Give reasons.

First of all, we need to be cautious while adding acid to water. As it is a highly exothermic process and if done in a hurried manner, may result in an explosion. It should be noted that the sulphuric acid concentrated to be made should also be low for preventing explosion.

Question 4. Kitchen gas burners are often coated with chromium . Give reasons.

Rusting and other forms of corrosion occur in the presence of oxygen. To prevent the corrosion of the base metal of Kitchen gas burners, chromium, a corrosion resistant metal is used.

I hope you understand and the relevant important points are in black.

Answer:

In the solid state, ionic compounds such as sodium chloride have their ions fixed in position and therefore these ions cannot move so solid ionic compounds cannot conduct electricity. However in the molten state, ions in ionic compounds are free to flow and therefore molten sodium chloride can conduct electricity
