Give reasons for the following:
(a) Solid sodium chloride does not conduct electricity while sodium chloride
solution conducts.
(b) It is not safe to carry out electrical repairs outdoors during a heavy
downpour.
(C) To carry out electrolysis of water, a few drops of sulphuric acid are (carefully) added to the water.
(d) Kitchen gas burners are often coated with chromium.

1) The sodium chloride (NaCl) ions does not move freely as atoms in solids are tightly packed but in solution as it is a liquid atoms are freely moving as compared to solids.

2) The pure water or H²O does not have atoms as they are valanced. By adding sulphur , sulphur ions get added in water thereby creating a source for electricity to travel or conduct.

3)During a heavy downpour the electricity can be conducted.

4) Chromium does not corrode.
