From about 9th century onward Tibeto-Burman tribs moved South from from the hills east of Tibet into the Irrawaddy plain. They founded their capital at Pagan at Upper Burma in the 10 century. They eventually absorbed the Mons, their cities and adopted the Mon civilization and Buddhist.
