To answer your first question,
Ghesu and Madhav were father and son, selfish, non-empathetic, emotionless and inhumane. They are defined this way because both father and son did not care for anyone but themselves. Not even did they care about each other. In the story, Madhav's wife is going through intensive labor pain and neither Madhav nor Ghesu care. They in fact wanted her yelling to stop, so they wished she would "die already", if she was going to die. Furthermore, the wife died and to get her kafan/ shroud, they lie to villagers and use up the shroud money, again and again. She had earned for them, yet no shame to honor her atleast after her death.
