saturated- hydrocarbons having single bonds between carbon atoms are called saturated hydrocarbons
they give a clean flame on burning.
unsaturated- hydrocarbons having one or more multiple bonds between carbon atoms are called unsaturated hydrocarbons.
they give yellow flame with a lot of black smoke on burning.
chemical test -; when an unsaturated compound is treated with bromine in presence of ccl4 the reddish brown colour of bromine disappear. so when ethyne is threated with ccl4 the reddish brown colour disappear. no colour change will observe in case of ethane.
