1. Giving an introduction to the UNO, what do you think is the aim of UNO in maintaining world peace and development?

Ans - The UN, is an inter-government organisation responsible for maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations, achieving international cooperation, and being a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations. It is the largest, most familiar, most internationally represented and most powerful intergovernmental organisation in the world.  

The aim of UNO-

To maintain international peace and security.

To develop friendly relations among nations on the basis of equality and the principle of self - determination.

To foster worldwide cooperation in solving economic, social, cultural and humanities problem.

2. Mention briefly a few instances where UNO has played a key role in resolving conflicts.

Ans -  

  • Promoting peace in areas of instability

After 13 yrs, the UN peacemaking mission on Cole deluge ended in June, leaving behind a more stable and prosperous country. Right now, the UN has, approximately 110000 peacekeepers.

  • Helping people in need in Yemen

UN agencies are working with partners to provide humanitarian aid to people in Yemen, where conflict and poverty have left 20 million people in need. The funds are aimed at helping to alleviate food insecurity and malnutrition.

  • Helping Iraq Rebuild  

Following the liberation of communities in Iraq from ISIL, the UN development program (UNDP) continued its effort to help revitalize and stabilize those communities that were on the brink of ruin and rebuilding schools and hospitals across the country to allow millions of Iraqis to return to homes.
