Changes in state :
- Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space.
- Matter has three forms : Solid, liquid and gas.
- The force between the molecules is called intermolecular force.
- The space between the molecules is called intermolecular space.
- The force between the atoms is called chemical bond.
- In solid, the molecules are tightly packed.
- In liquids, the molecules are loosely packed.
- In gases, the molecules are very loosely packed.
Question : How can a solid be changed into liquid state ?
Answer : A solid can be changed into liquid state by heating. The process is called melting of a solid.
In a solid , the molecules are very loosely packed. They vibrate in their places. When heated, they gain an energy from outside and starts vibrating to a higher extent. The molecules starts to loosen and forms a liquid.
Example - Ice ------> Water
