Ans 1. = Religious sentiments of the Indians were hurt by the official policy of taxing lands belongings to temples and mosques. Such lands had been exempted from taxation by previous Indians rulers. The families dependent on these lands began to propagate that the British were trying to undermine the religions of India.

Ans 2 . = reasons for the failure of uprising or revolt of 1857 are :

• Lack of Planning and Co-ordination.

•Weak Leadership of the 1857 Mutiny.

• Superior British Army.

• Limited Supplies and Lack of Modern Communication.

• Lack of Societal Alternative.

• The Princes and Educated Classes did not participate.

• Limited Spread of the Revolt.

• lack of modern weapons

Ans 3 = Some important changes were introduced after the revolt to prevent the occurence of another such revolt. ⚫ The rule of the East India Company ended and India came directly under the British crown through an Act in 1858. The Governor - General was given the title of Viceroy.
