1. The main reason why Hyder Ali came to power as he was a student of warfare. Mughal Cavalry was also not as good as him in a small band of a flintlock. So, Hyder Ali realized that and began to procure weaponry of European. He was a negative politician and erupted intra-Mysore battles and thus became the ruler of Mysore.
2. Hyder Ali forged an alliance with the Nizam and the Marathas and defeated the British forces in Arcot. Hyder Ali died in 1782 and the war was continued by his son Tipu Sultan. Sir Eyre Coote, who had earlier defeated Hyder Ali many times, ended the war inconclusively with the Treaty of Mangalore.
