1. Free electrons of matter do random motion. They come in contact to pass current. But current is not the result of conduction of charge between electron to the one end from the electron of the other end.Free electron  are continuously in motion but when the potential difference is created the current flows.

2. On electroplating zinc on iron a coating of zinc oxide cover the surface of iron breaking its contact from the outer moisture and oxygen so iron dosn't form rust and the food does not get rancid.
