Transpiration occurs from leaves of the plant, resulting in loss of water. This loss of water creates a vacuum, a low pressure area which creates a suction in the xylem tissue. The water from the roots moves towards the vacuum created and reaches the leaves. It is because of pressure difference this happens. The suction force attracts the water upwards. This process is known as ASCENT OF SAP.
It is same like drinking water through straw where we create a suction on top and water rises up.
