Answer:

The heat of Earth's interior comes from a variety of sources. ... A major source of Earth's heat is radioactivity, the energy released when the unstable atoms decay. The radioactive isotopes uranium-235 (235U), uranium-238 (238U), potassium-40 (40K), and thorium-232 (232Th) in Earth's mantle are the primary source.

Heat is originated in the earth's internal surface in the following ways:

  • Formation of the planets: Most of the internal's heat of the earth is from the time when our earth was formed. All the planets first evolved as smaller matter so, after multiple collisions, the heat was generated. As the earth grew bigger gravity started pulling all the matter towards its center. Thus, this compression of the material deep inside the earth increased the heat further.
  • Formation of the layers of the earth: As the temperatures got much high, the iron started melting and coming towards the center of the earth. the friction between the iron and other materials, while it was going towards the center, generated even more heat. So, the denser material went towards the center while the less dense material went up the surface of the earth. This led to the formation of layers of the earth namely, the crust, mantle, and core.
  • Radioactive decay: Radioactive decay also adds up to the heat of the earth. Since the formation of the earth, certain radioactive elements like potassium, and uranium break down through a process called radioactive decay and thus release energy.
