Answer:

The soil is formed by weathering or disintegration of parent rocks by physical, chemical and biological agents. It is a slow process and takes thousands of years. This physical and chemical decomposition is primarily done by wind, water, and climate. As a result of these processes, large rock pieces are converted into smaller pieces and eventually to soil. Living organisms such as lichens, insects, microorganisms make soil ready for the plants to grow. The growth of roots of plants further adds to the weathering of rocks and thus forms soil.

Sandy soil

Sandy Soil is light, warm, dry and tend to be acidic and low in nutrients. Sandy soils are often known as light soils due to their high proportion of sand and little clay (clay weighs more than sand).

Clay Soil

Clay Soil is a heavy soil type that benefits from high nutrients. Clay soils remain wet and cold in winter and dry out in summer.

Silt Soil

Silt Soil is a light and moisture retentive soil type with a high fertility rating.

Soil is our life support system. Soils provide anchorage for roots, hold water and nutrients. Soils are home to myriad micro-organisms that fix nitrogen and decompose organic matter, and armies of microscopic animals as well as earthworms and termites. We build on soil as well as with it and in it.
