1)How to decide whether the given terms are like or unlike terms?
2) What are monomials,binomial,trinomial and polynomial?
Answers
Answer:
1 ) Like terms : The terms having the same literal (variable) with same exponents are called Like terms. Unlike terms : The terms having the same variable with different exponents or different variable with same exponents are called Unlike terms .
2)
You call an expression with a single term a monomial, an expression with two terms is a binomial, and an expression with three terms is a trinomial. An expression with more than three terms is named simply by its number of terms. For example a polynomial with five terms is called a five-term polynomial

- Following steps will help you to decide whether the given terms are Like or Unlike terms:
Ignore the numerical coefficients. Concentrate on the algebric part of the terms.
Check the variables in the terms.They must be the same.
Next,check the powers of each variable in the terms. They must be the same.
᯽NOTE : In deciding like terms,two things do not matter:
1) the numerical coefficients of the terms .
2) the order in which the variables are multiplied in the terms.
__________
Monomials:- An expression with only one term is called a monomial. Example;
Binomials:- An expression which contains two unlike terms is called binomial. Example;
Trinomial:- A expression which contains three terms us called a trinomial. Example;
Polynomial:- In general,an expression with one or more terms is called a polynomial. Thus, a minomial,binomial and tinomial are all POLYNOMIALS.
