Treaty of Vienna was held from November 1814 to June 1815, after France`s defeat in May 1814. The objective was to provide a long-term piece after French revolutionary wars and Napoleon wars.
It was implemented in many countries in Europe :
- France lost all its conquests. The Bourbon dynasty in France was restored to power.
- Kingdom of Netherlands was created and included some new territories, today known as Belgium.
- Prussia added some German states, parts of Swedish Pomerania and Kingdom of Saxony.
- Austria added Venice and the great part of northern Italy.
- Russia gained parts of Poland.
The main aim of the treaty of Vienna was to restore monarchies in Europe.
The Treaty of Vienna dated 1815 was executed in the following ways:
i) The Bourbon dynasty was restored to power, which was deposed during French Revolution period.
ii) France had to return the territories it had acquired under Napoleon.
iii) The Kingdom of the Netherlands was set up in the northern sector.
iv) Geneva was Annexed to Piedmont in the south and Prussia was assigned important new territories.
v) Austria was awarded control of Northern Italy and Russia was allowed to occupy part of Poland.
