for finding the value of k put the value of x in this equation.

(3)² - 2k(3) - 6 = 0

9 - 6k - 6 = 0

6k = 3

k = 3/6

k = 1/2

hence,the value of k = 1/2

x² - 2(1/2)x - 6 = 0

x² - x - 6 = 0

x² - 3x + 2x - 6 = 0

x(x - 3) + 2(x - 3) = 0

(x + 2)(x - 3) = 0

x = 3 , x = -2
