Given:

Part of the book completed yesterday is 6/11

Part of the book completed today is 2/11

To find:

Part of the book that is left to read.

Solution:

Let us assume the whole part of the book as 1.

Part of the book read yesterday = (6/11)

Part of the book read today = (2/11)

The part of the book read = part of the book read yesterday + the part of the book completed today.

Total part of the book read = (6/11) + (2/11)

Since the fractions have the same denominators,

therefore these fractions are added directly.

The total part of the book read = (8/11)

We know that,

The total part of the book = Total portion of the book read + part of the book left to complete

Putting values, we get,

1 = (8/11) + part of the book left to read

Part of the book left to read = 1 - (8/11)

= (11-8)/11

= 3/11

Therefore, the part of the book that is left to read is 3/11.
