Answer:

Area will increase by 8 %

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the length & breadth of rectangle be a & b

Area(original)=ab

New length=a+

100

20

a=

100

120

a

New breadth=b−

100

10

b=

100

90

b

Area(new)=

100

120

×

100

90

ab=

100

108

ab=ab+

100

8

ab

∴ Area increased by 8%.

Answer:

let the length be X and breadth be y

now Their area = xy

after increase in length by 20%, length= X + X × 20/100 = 120X/100

after increase in breadth by 10% , breadth= y + y × 10/100 = 110Y/100

now area = 120x/100 × 110y/100 = 132xy/100

increase in area = 132xy/100 - xy = 32xy/100

percentage of increase in area = [32xy/100 × 100]/ xy = 32 %

hence the area is increased by 32%!!
