1. If x+y=8 and 2° +2° = 40, then find x,y.​

2^x + 2^8 / 2^x - 40 = 0

(2^x)^2 - 40(2^x) + 256 = 0

(2^x - 32)(2^x - 8) = 0

2^x = 32 or 2^x = 8

x = 5 or x = 3

but y = 8 - x

so x = 5, y = 3 or x = 3, y = 5
