HOW TO SOLVE?

x - y = 8 \\ (x - y) {}^{2}  = ( {8)}^{2}  \\  {x}^{2}  + y {}^{2}  - 2xy = 64 \\ pu t \: value \: of \: xy \: that \: is \: given \\  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  - 2(5) = 64 \\  {x}^{2} +  {y}^{2}   - 10 = 64 \\  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  = 64 + 10 \\  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  = 74
