1.)If it was any color other than black, you would get unwelcome reflections on your image. Rays from the pinhole that don’t directly strike the film, but one of the interior side walls of the camera instead will be scattered and reflected (depending on how shiny the interior of your pinhole camera is). This will lead to a hazy ‘fog’ over the image, or random brighter patches.

The box should be painted black from outside and inside for better clarity. The object whose image is to be seen should be in bright light.
