1. In a A ABC, D and E are points on the sides AB and AC respectively such that
(i) If AD = 6 cm, DB = 9 cm and AE = 8 cm, find AC.

Let EC=x cm

AC= AE+ EC

= (8+x) cm

As per Intercept theorem,

If DE||BC

then, AD/DE = AE/ EC

6/9 = 8/EC

2/3 = 8/EC

EC = 8×3/2

EC= 12 cm
