Given that: There are 10 sunflowers, 15 Marigolds and 5 Iris in a flower pot.

   Need to find: Probability of picking up -

       a) Sunflower

       b) Marigold

       c) Iris

Must know:

  • Probability = Favorable Outcomes/Total Outcomes

~Here, Total outcomes are the total number of flowers which is sum of number of sunflowers, marigolds and iris.

Solution:

a) Sunflower

Here,

   Favorable outcomes = No. of Sunflowers = 10

   Total outcomes = 10+15+5 = 30

Probability = 10/30

                  = 1/3

  • Henceforth, probability of picking up a sunflower is 1/3

_______________

b) Marigold

Here,

   Favorable outcomes = No. of Marigolds = 15

   Total outcomes = 30

Probability = 15/30

                  = 1/2

  • Henceforth, probability of picking up a marigold is 1/2

_______________

c) Iris

Here,

  Favorable outcomes = No. of Iris' = 5

  Total outcomes = 30

Probability = 5/30

                = 1/6

  • Henceforth, probability of picking up a marigold is 1/6
