Diagram C shows the result of the experiment.

  • When the plant is left in the bright sunlight for several hours, the parts of the leaf where chlorophyll is present conduct photosynthesis.
  • As photosynthesis is conducted, the glucose formed during photosynthesis is stored in the form of a polysaccharide, starch.
  • Now, it is given that the leaf from the plant that was used in the experiment had white and green areas.
  • The white area of the leaf is devoid of chlorophyll, so no photosynthesis might have occurred and consequently, no starch is present here.
  • Hence, when tested with iodine, the part of the leaf that was initially green will turn blue/black. While the part that was initially white will show no change in iodine colour, i.e., it will remain brown.
