  • From triangle ABC and ACD,  
  • AB = Ad
  • BC = DC
  • AC is common
  • Triangle ABC is congruent to triangle ACD (from SSS theorem)
  • Therefore angle ABC = angle ADC
  • Angle BCA = angle ACD
  • Therefore angle ACD = 35 degree
  • So 2x + 5 = 35
  • Or x = 15
  • Now angle BAC = angle CAD
  • Or y + 5 = 46
  • Or y = 41

So the values of x and y are 15 and 41
