A.) If the egg does notbecome fertilized, thelining of the uterus(endometrium) is shed during menstruation. The average menstrual cycle lasts 28 days.

b.) Estrogen causes the lining to grow and thicken to prepare the uterus for pregnancy. In the middle of the cycle, an egg is released from one of the ovaries (ovulation). Following ovulation, levels of another hormone called progesterone begin to increase.

c.)If fertilized, the egg may travel to the uterus and implant to develop into a pregnancy. If left unfertilized, the eggdisintegrates and the uterine lining is shed during your period.

d.)The egg takes several days to travel down the fallopian tube into theuterus. After it is in the uterus, a fertilized egg usually attaches to (implants in) the lining of the uterus(endometrium). ... If the egg is not fertilized or does not implant, the woman's body sheds the egg and the endometrium.
