Yes , there is a huge difference between both of them as-

1. Force can be applied anyway, but If the displacement does not occur, it is workless thing.

2. If work is done, force is for sure involved and done.

3. But if force is applied, it doesn't necessarily mean that work is done.

Eg- If I apply a 200 Newton force on a huge bunglow, I am applying force but no work is done. As no displacement took place.

Think- can you move a bunglow by your muscular force? No, that's the reason.
