It was a real effort for the crew to remain calm after the chaotic climatic conditions on 4th and 5th January of 1977.
On January 2 their boat, Wavewalker was badly damaged by a colossal wave; they had to work very hard to save it from drowning. On January 4, they succeeded in bringing the water level in the boat down through incessant pumping. It appeared the boat would make it to any nearest country and they would be safe.
However, on January 4 the weather again became rough. Wind began to blow at 40 knots and the waves began to rise. By the dawn of January 5, it appeared the storm would strike again. And if the storm rose, they would definitely sink.
