Answer:

C+CO

2

→2CO

⇒ Initial volume =1L

Final volume =1.6L

Let V

CO

2

=x V

CO

=(1−x)

⇒(1−x)+2x=1.6

1+x=1.6

x=0.6

∴%CO

=60%, %CO=40%

Hence, solved.

Given:

The volume of CO and CO2 mixture = 1 L

The volume of final mixture = 1200 ml = 1.2 L

To Find:

The volume of CO gas in the initial mixture.

Calculation:

- On passing over hot coke, only CO2 reduces to CO.

CO + C → No reaction

a (= volume)

CO2 + C → 2 CO

b 0 (Initial volume)

0 2b (Final volume)

- According to the question:

a + b = 1

and (a + 2b) = 1.2

- On solving, we get:

b = 0.2 L

- From first equation above, we get:

a = 1 - b

⇒ a = 1 - 0.2

a = 0.8 L

- So, the volume of CO gas in the initial mixture is 0.8 L or 800 mL.
