1. List the disadvantages of burning firewood.
Answers
There are really no advantages. Firewood is being used by people living off the grid, because it is abundant and readily available.
In the cities people use it following primordial atavism of open fire, as a luxury rather than source of heat.
The disadvantages result from the low density and quality of wood as fuel.
First, you need a lot of it. So you have to cut down many trees, cut them to pieces and put them in piles. That is a lot of work.
Then, you need to make numerous trips to your pile, because wood burns quite fast, so you have to replenish it quite frequently.
Burning wood also produces a lot of smoke, soot and particulate impurities as well as ash, so it is really messy.
You have to feed the fire frequently, which means getting out of bed at night, because the fire will not last say 8 hours.
Burning wood also produces a lot of “silent killer” (carbon monoxide) so you have to make sure that your chimney is unobstructed and you are safe.
So if possible, you are much better off burning coal or coke coal.
