1)Plants make food in their leaves. The leaves contain a pigment called chlorophyll, which colors the leaves green. Chlorophyll can make food the plant can use from carbon dioxide, water, nutrients, and energy from sunlight. This process is called photosynthesis.

2)Some plants store excess food as starch or fat, usually in a storage root, tuber or similar structure. However, most excess food is diverted to new vegetative growth or to the seed/embryo.
