There are four types of tissues found in animals: epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscle tissue, and nervous tissue.
Epithelial tissue: They are closely packed cells arranged in flat sheets. They form the surface of the skin, line the various cavities and tubes of the body and also cover the internal organs.
Muscle tissue: Skeletal muscle made up of long fibers which provides the force of locomotion and other voluntary movements through contraction and relaxation of muscles. Also there are involuntary muscles called smooth muscles which lines the walls of hollow structures of the body, such as blood vessels, intestines, bladder and uterus. The heart is made up of cardiac muscle.
Connective tissue: The cells of the connective tissues are embedded in great amount of extracellular material. The matrix is secreted by cells. There are 4 types of connective tissues: Supporting connective tissue, Dense connective tissue, Loose connective tissue and Adipose tissue.
Nerve tissue: Nerve tissues are composed of neurons and glial cells. Neurons are nerve cells which transports signals and messages from each and every part of the body to the brain. Neurons consists of axons, dentrites and cell body. Glial cells surround the neurons. Hence they produce mylein sheath and also performs various functions.
