Let the numerator of the number be x.

Then, denominator of the number=x-4

Fraction = x/x−4

.........( i )

According to the question, if 6 is added to numerator, it becomes thrice the denominator.

x+6=3(x−4)

⇒3x−12=x+6

⇒3x−x=6+12

⇒2x=18

⇒x=18/2

x=9

Hence, fraction=

x/x−4=9/9−4=9/5
