1. Long Answer Type Questions:
1. Explain three ways by which
(i) air gets polluted
(ii) water gets polluted.
Answers
Answer:
I. The pollutants that contaminate the quality of air are known as “Air pollutants”; such as smoke from forest fires, cigarettes, factories, dust, etc. Majority of the air pollution occurs due to the use of energy and production by factories. Most of the air pollution takes place due to the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, gasoline to produce energy for electricity or transportation. The release of carbon monoxide in high level indicates how much fossil fuel is burned. This also emits other toxic pollutants in the air.
ii. Water pollution can be caused in a number of ways, one of the most polluting being city sewage and industrial waste discharge. Indirect sources of water pollution include contaminants that enter the water supply from soils or groundwater systems and from the atmosphere via rain.
