ANSWER:

Given:

  • 1 < 25 - 2x < 5x - 40; x€Z

To Find:

  • Values of x

Solution:

⇒ 1 < 25 - 2x < 5x - 40

Taking first 2 sides,

⇒ 1 < 25 - 2x

⇒ 2x < 25 - 1

⇒ 2x < 24

⇒ x < 12 -----(1)

Now, taking the the 2nd and 3rd sides,

⇒ 25 - 2x < 5x - 40

⇒ 25 + 40 < 5x + 2x

⇒ 65 < 7x

⇒ x > 65/7

⇒ x > 9.29

As x€Z

⇒ x > 9 ----(2)

Using (1) & (2)

⇒ 9 < x < 12

⇒ x€{10,11}

Important points:

  • Remember to note down the correct signs.
  • Remember to change the signs of terms while transposing them to other side.
