Answer:
Martha was an intelligent fourteen year old girl. She was more matured and always took her decisions wisely.
The question has been asked from the story The Scholarship jacket by Marta Salinas.
The school used to give a Scholarship jacket to the student who had earned the highest grades for eight years. Martha was that one student and was expecting the jacket.
One day while overhearing two teachers, She learned that she might not receive the scholarship jacket even by having highest grades.
She asked the Principal, who in turn told that the jacket shall cost 15$. She told the same to her Grandfather and he denied her the money.
She understood her grandfather's advice that buying it means losing its worth, so she told her principal she wont buy it.
Being influenced by Martha's responsible and matured behaviour the Principal awards her the jacket.
