2. Greatest Mauryan king Ashoka used the expression "pillars of the Dharma" to describe his pillars. These pillars (column) constitute important monuments of the architecture of India. Ashokan pillars were highly realistic and used a characteristic Muaryan polished finish, giving a shiny appearance to the stone surface.
